Why I chose my major

I have watched how my different grandparents have aged differently based on their lifestyle patterns and chronic disease status. This sparked my interest in nutrition because it is a lifestyle factor that we can have some control over as we age. I thought that pursuing a degree in nutrition would give me an interesting perspective on mechanisms involved in the development of chronic diseases and help me to better educate my family and friends on how nutritional choices can impact their health in the long term.

What I like most about FACS

I enjoyed the coursework for my degree. I think it was a good mix of topics that allowed me to learn different applications of nutritional science and explore new subject areas that I would not have previously known that I was interested in.

Post-graduation plans

I will start working towards my Ph.D in Translational Biomedical Science at Georgia State University this fall. But first, this summer I am participating in my second 200-hour yoga teacher training certification program at Fuel Hot Yoga here in Athens and am planning to backpack 150 miles of the John Muir Trail in California with my dad.
