Why I chose my major

I chose Consumer Economics because it is so applicable to everyday life, and I have always been fascinated by the psychology behind why people make the decisions they do. I am drawn to the “why” behind everything, and this major helped me understand that on a deeper level.

I have also always known I wanted to go into real estate; I just wasn’t sure in what form. When I discovered the Housing Management and Policy degree, I was immediately drawn to its unique course offerings and real-world application. After my very first class with Professor Sherle Brown, I knew I had found the right fit. Both majors have complemented each other so well, helping me build a strong foundation for life after college.

What I like most about FACS

I love how the College of Family and Consumer Sciences creates a feeling of home and connection within such a large campus. The professors genuinely care and pour their passion into teaching and mentoring, and students are supported in finding their unique path to making an impact. The different career paths within FACS are endless, yet every aspect works toward the shared goal of strengthening communities through knowledge and professional development.

I also deeply admire the pivotal role women have played throughout FACS’s history. As one of the first programs available to women at UGA, it has grown alongside evolving societal norms, always championing women’s education and leadership. I am proud to be a part of a college that honors its legacy while continuing to empower future leaders.

Post-graduation plans

Starting in June, I will be working as a Talent Solutions Analyst Intern at Cortland in Atlanta. It feels full circle to now be stepping into a role that blends both of my majors. This opportunity came through the strong network I built within FACS, from guest speakers and mentors to career fairs and RPM events. Cortland is a member of the RPM board and a strong supporter of the program, and I am so excited to start my career as an intern with them.
